Electric Bass Pickups

• Type 1, Std (Neck/Bridge) - Reviewed in the March 1999 edition of Bass Player Magazine, Aero's J Bass 4 String pickup won a "Top Tone" award.  The complete comment, "Heavy lows, distinct upper mids, and round top that's cool for fingerstyle rock, blues, and country. (And '70s-style funk.)  Broken-in vibe that's fun to play. On tape, pickups have big bottom for a J, although the tone can get a bit thick."
• Type 2 - clear acoustic sound with lower output than Type 1.
• Type 3, Alnico 2 - dark pleasent distortion sound
• Type 4 - Type 1 pickup for fretless, tappers, and harmonic players. This pickup is a closed cover design (no exposed pole pieces).
• Type 4A - Type 1 pickup with four 1/4"OD pole pieces.  The pickup has a narrower field than the Type 4, but has exposed pole pieces.
• Mexican J Bass 4 Replacement The infamous pole piece pickup.  The neck & bridge are identical!! Shorter and wider then the standard neck pickup, standard covers do not fit!!! The replacement pickup is designed to fit into the existing cover. New covers are not available through Aero.

Note: All J Bass 4 pickup sets (neck & bridge) come reverse wound, reverse polarity, for hum cancelling when both pickups are active.

• J Bass 5 Type 1 (Std) pickups are the 5 string version of Aero´s J Bass 4 Type 1 pickup. These pickups come standard with exposed pole pieces, and can optionally be closed cover (unexpoased pole pieces). String spacings are specified at the time of purchase. Five String basses generally use covers of the same dimension as the J Bass 4 bridge cover (94mmL). This cover will accomidate C-C string spacings upto 18.50mm. If a manufacturer has routed the neck position for a J Bass 4 neck cover (91mmL), this pickup is also available with string spacings for the neck cover upto 17.00mm C-C.
• JB5ae - Aero version of the JB5 pickup.  The bobbin is longer to allow wide string spacings beyond 18.50mm. The pickup is sold with or without cover.  Black plastic Covers are available standard, or custom machined from wood. Cover dimensions are 4-5/8"L x 0.825"W x 7/8"H. Cover has two mounting holes, one at each end.
• Type F - Replacement Pickup - These pickups are also voice like the J Bass 4 Type 1 pickup. The neck string spacing is 16.75mm C-C, and the cover is 3.95"L.  The bridge string spacing is 17.60mm C-C, and the cover is 4.10"L. The replacement pickup is designed to fit into the existing cover.  New covers are not available through Aero.

• Aero version of a 6 String J Bass style single coil pickup.  Unexposed pole pieces only.  The pickup is sold with or without cover. Black plastic Covers are available standard, or custom machined from wood. Covers: JB6ae 5.0"L x 0.825"W x 7/8"H and JB6ae+ 5.375"L x 0.825"W x 7/8"H. Cover has two mounting holes, one at each end.

• Type 1 - Reproduction of Older Style Pe Bass 4 String Pickup.  Sold with a white string finish.
• Type 4A - Same as Type 1 with 0.250"OD magnets.
• Type 5A - Low impedance version with 0.025"OD magnets.
• Type 7 - Low frequency limited pickup.

• Aero is the first company to manufacture a true 4 pole piece "Musicmaster" pickup.  The original "Musicmaster" pickup has 6 pole pieces and was designed for guitar, not bass.  The pickup is available with unexposed (standard) or with exposed or radius'ed pole pieces, and also in Alnico 2 (Aero Type 3) This Aero pickup is a drop-in replacement pickup designed to fit under existing covers.

• Aero Mustang 4 Type 4A pickups are an exact replacement designed with better frequency response than the original.  The pickup is manufactured in both USA and Reissue bobbin sizes.  Mustang pickups are series hum bucking (SHB), the same as a PB pickup.  New covers are not available from Aero, but the new Aero Mustang pickup will fit perfectly into the original covers.

• P Bass Style Pickup in a J Bass Shape. Available for 4, 5, & 6 as well as for extended range bass (ERB), 7, 8, 9, & 10 stringed instruments.  Exposed pole pieces for 4 and 5 strings only, all others unexposed. Odd string pickups have an even number of magnets (e.g. 5 string pickups have 6 magnets, the 6th unmagnetized magnet is on the high string side). Four string covers are standard J Bass 4 plastic dog-ear´ed covers.  All other covers are machined from plastic or wood.  String spacing is specified at the time of purchase.  Not all string spacings are possible.

• Replacement Pickup - 4 String and 5 String Soapbar with J Bass style bobbins, in single and dual coil designs. Exposed or unexposed pole pieces.  PHC and SHB Options are available. The pickup is sold with or without cover. Black plastic or wooden Covers are available. Cover dimension: 4.0"L x 1.5"W x 7/8"H.  Cover has four mounting holes, two on each side.

• Replacement Pickup - 5 String and narrow 6 String (less than 17.40mm) Soapbar with J Bass style bobbins, in single and dual coil designs.  For 6 string, unexposed pole pieces only.  PHC and SHB  Options are available. The pickup is sold with or without cover.  Black plastic Covers are available.  Cover dimension: 4.5"L x 1.5"W x 7/8"H. Cover has four mounting holes, two on each side.

• Four String Soapbar with J Bass style bobbins, in single and dual coil designs. Many Options are available. The pickup is sold with or without cover.  Covers of black plastic are available standard, or custom machined from wood. Cover dimension: 4-¼"L x 1-¼"W x 7/8"H.  Cover has two mounting holes, one at each end.

• The 5 String version of the E4j & E4jd pickup.  These bobbin are relatively short for 5 string spacings, which are limited to less than 18.00mm for single coil and 17.50mm for dual coil. Only PHC and SHB dual coil Options are available.  For new designs and for wide string spacings use "H Series" pickups.

• The 5 string Soapbar version of a Pe Bass pickup.  Pole piece placement is extreemly versatile. However, because the bobbins are relatively short, only 5 string spacings less than 17.50mm are available. For new designs or for wider string spacings H5pd pickups are available.

• Five String Soapbar with J Bass style bobbins, in single and dual coil designs. Many Options are available. The pickup is sold with or without cover.  Black plastic Covers are available standard, or custom machined from wood. Cover dimension: 4-5/8"L x 1-¼"W x 7/8"H. Cover has two mounting holes, one at each end.

• Six String Soapbar with J Bass style bobbin, in single and dual coil designs. Many Options are available. This pickup is a pole piece design with special magnets that eliminate the "dead C string" effect that happens with many 6 string pole piece pickups. The standard design is for a closed cover (unexposed pole pieces). The pickup is sold with or without cover.  Covers are custom machined from plastic or wood. Cover dimension: 5.0"L x 1-¼"W x 7/8"H. Cover has two mounting holes, one at each end.

• MM4 (Std) - A modern version of the original Stingray pickup.  The magnets are flush with the bottom of the cover which means it doesn't require the second deeper route of the Stingray pickup. The magnets are exposed, but flat with the cover (i.e. no radius).  The pickup is designed for use as a series hum bucker and does not require a pre-amp.  It can also be used in parallel, but the output is lower and requires additonal amplification.
• MM4 PHC - A parallel hum cancelling version designed for use without a pre-amp. Either coil can also be used as a single coil pickup (without addional amplification).

• M Series Pickups - One of Aero's most versatile pickups. Available in single and dual coil with many, many Options.  Manufactured as 4, 5, & 6 as well as for extended range bass (ERB), 7, 8, 9, & 10 string pickups.  The soapbar shape cover is 2"W 7/8"H, and the length is varied depending upon the number of strings.  Black plastic Covers are available standard, or custom machined from wood.  This pickup is for new and as a retrofit in older instruments.

• An example of an older instrument retrofit is in instruments that have a Music Man 4 pickup.  The M4d was originally designed as a route in replacement for Music Man 4 pickups, where the MM4 had incorrect string spacing.  M4d covers are 4"L x 2"W which is slightly larger than the MM4 cover including the dog-ears.

• P5jd - Replacement Pickup - 5 String Soapbar with dual coil parallel hum cancelling bobbins.  The pickup is sold without cover. Cover dimension: 4-5/8"L x 1-¼"W x 3/4"H. New covers are not available through Aero.
• P6jd - Replacement Pickup - 6 String version of the P5jd. Only narrow string spacings are available.  Cover dimension: 4-5/8"L x 1-¼"W x 3/4"H. New covers are not available through Aero.

Q Series

• Designed for extended range bass (ERB) 7 String and narrow 8 String (less than 16.50mm) Soapbar with J Bass style bobbins, in single and dual coil designs.  Unexposed pole pieces only.  PHC and SHB  options are available. The pickup is sold with or without cover.  Covers of black plastic are available standard, or custom machined from wood. Cover dimension: 6.0"L x 1-¼"W x 7/8"H.  Cover has two mounting holes, one at each end.

• Aero original design pickup! Similar to SCPB but with two different mounting styles. Used mostly in new instruments.

• Aero replacement pickups for Yamaha TRB6P.  Cover = 5.5"L x 15/16"W

• Aero Travis Bean replacement pickups.  These pickups are an exact shape reproduction of the original.  They also mount the same (2 mounting holes on the bottom). There is no cover (the original doesn't have a cover).

Bridge

• Type 1, Plate, White String Finish - 60's sounding pickup, very traditional.
• Type 1 Tapped, Plate, String Finish - Two pickups in one, Esquire players rejoice. Also used in conjuction with the Aero Telle Type 2 neck pickup, and a rewire of the standard Telle switch to produce a hum bucked middle position.
• Type 2, Plate, Black Tape Finish- Clear and open sound.  Very good for Nashville and pedal steel type sounds.
• Type 3, Alnico 2, Plate, String Finish - For middle and light weight guitars.
• Type 4, Alnico 2, Plate, String Finish - This pickup is designed for heavier Telle's, and puts back some of the low end.

Electric Ukelele Pickups

• Aero's electric Ukulele pickup.  It fits a 2-3/4"L x 1-1/2"W cover. Versions are available for 4, 5, & 6 string instruments.  Single and dual coil designs.  Instrument must have steel strings (won't work for nylon string instruments).

• Aero's single coil electric Ukulele pickup.  It's only 2.5"L x 0.3"W. Versions are only available for 4 string instruments. Pickup has a black tape finish, but no cover. Instrument must have steel strings (won't work for nylon string instruments).

Lap & Pedal Steel Pickups
